The first Chautauqua House Tour was sponsored by the Chautauqua Bird, Tree and Garden Club in 1954 to raise funds for its many gardens and educational programs. BTG has continued to sponsor this popular self-guided walking tour on an every other year basis. This year, enjoy a docent lead tour of the Hollyhock House- one of the many exceptional homes on the tour. In addition to the house tours, a wide range of interesting private and public gardens will be on display offering both a self guided tour as well as master gardener talks scheduled throughout the day. The gardens adjacent to the house tour route will have docents providing commentary on the various rain gardens, eco-friendly practices, information on the tree canopy and other interesting facts about the institutions landscaping and gardens. The Arboretum just turned 100 years old, an educational plot of land provides visitors with a rare glimpse of a large number of different species of plants and trees all in one place. It’s a diverse collection of shrubs, trees and perennials, all well marked. Seating nooks and garden rooms are nestled under trees and among native shrubs.
